How the Tier Visa Operates in the UK

The Tier Visa is a UK immigration system for migrants with desirable professional skills, skilled workers with a job offer, temporary or low skilled workers, students and youth mobility schemes / temporary workers. Tier Visas are categorized from 1 to 5.

It is advisable for any applicant to know exactly what he or she wants to do in the UK and understands the requirements clearly before applying for any Tier Visa. By way of example, for any person who wants to apply for Tier 2 Visa, they must prove beyond doubt to the UK authority that there is nobody in the European Union who cannot do the kind of job is he or she is applying for instead, if the visa applicant is not from the European Union themselves. By knowing the type of Tier Visa to apply for will help the applicant avoid disappointment.

Tier Visa holders should bear in mind that just being a Tier Visa holder does not automatically guarantee British citizenship, when applying you will need to have been living in the UK for some time to prove to the UK government that you are person of integrity and good character. This is because if they find out that the Tier Visa holder is ‘misbehaving’ in their country the person is liable to deportation to his or her country of origin.

The Tier Visa was introduced recently to make the process of application for any category of the visa easier and also to reduce chances of cheating especially by illegal immigrants, who enter UK without permission.

How to Get a Work Permit in Australia

A work permit is necessary if you want to live and work in Australia.  The first step towards getting a work permit in Australia is to determine the type of work permit or visa that will best suit your needs. Those who are well skilled and have a strong employment and educational background should seek a Professional and Skilled Migrant visa.  This will enable you to live and work in Australia for a period of up to three years.  This type of visa allows you to choose your own employment and affords you most of the same privileges as natural citizens.  This is typically the first step towards permanent residency and citizenship.

There are several other types of work permits available in Australia.  For example if you have a specific job offer from an employer in Australia you may be able to get an employer sponsored workers visa.  This visa is based on the fact that you already have a good job waiting for you in the country.  You must report any employment changes and must renew your visa as it expires.  Short-term employment visas are available for travellers and students who will not intend on permanent residence in Australia.  It is also possible for specialty work permits to be granted on a case-by-case basis.  These types of visas are meant for people who hold jobs that are deemed to be in high demand at the time.  You must submit all the necessary paperwork and documentation at the time of application.

Chinese Migrant Workers in Finland

With the growing labour demand in Finland, certain regions of the country are looking at recruiting skilled migrants from Asian countries such as China. Certain municipalities, such as the southern province of Uusimaa in Finland, are planning to recruit Chinese professionals to work in the country. They are specifically looking at hiring metalworkers and nurses from the said Asian country.

Today, Finland faces a shortage of labour especially in the field of healthcare and the metal industry. According to one of the country’s largest academic centres, Adulta, Finland’s turning to China for help will surely address the shortage of labour in the country. Furthermore, Erkki Leppänen from Adulta has stated that, “The Chinese are known as diligent and happy people”. This was based from his personal experience when he visited the north-eastern part of China. He was able to visit the cities of Shenhang and Dalian during his participation in a Finnish delegation. The educational centre Adulta, has more than 11,000 students that participate in the organization’s programs and apprenticeship trainings especially designed for the Finnish immigrants.

Leppänen has already made contact with organizations in China who were already sending skilled professionals to various countries such as New Zealand and Japan. This is where Leppänen’s idea of bringing Chinese workers to Finland came from. The plan will also include sending the Chinese recruits to study the Finnish language before coming to Finland to work. At the same time, Chinese workers will be attending apprenticeship programs while in Finland.

The shortage in labour is said to have been the result of people leaving the work force or the country each year. There are approximately 25,000 people leaving the Finnish labour force annually.

South Australia’s Overseas Migrants Continue to Grow

According to statistics provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics or ABS, migration to South Australia continues to grow over the years. Looking at the figures for the year 2007, there was a recorded increase of 12,600 people due to net overseas migration to the Australian state. About one third of that figure, 4,800 migrants, entered South Australia in the first quarter of 2007. This has been the largest quarterly gain that the Australian government has ever experienced in the last 25 years.

As they closely monitor the growth of immigration and population of the country, they have noted that every quarter increase they have recorded since 1986, has greatly contributed to the resident population of South Australia. There was an exception during between June 1993 and June 1994.

This increase in immigrants and growth in the population is being enjoyed by the state as South Australia has been actively hiring international talents to increase their population. By 2050, the target population of South Australia is 2 million. With that in mind, this continuous growth has proven that they have been doing an excellent job. This was stated by the Australian Population Institute Chairman, Michael Hickinbotham.

South Australia has revised its immigration policies corresponding to revisions made to the Australia’s General Skilled Migration program. South Australia offers migration sponsorships for skilled professionals under the visas such as Offshore Skilled Sponsored (subclass 176) visa, Onshore Skilled Sponsored (subclass 886) visa, Onshore Skilled Regional Sponsored (subclass 487) visa, and Offshore Skilled Regional Sponsored (subclass 475) visa.
