Starting the US-F1 Academic Student Visa Application

Many students wish to go and study in the United States of America.  There are some specific regulations in this regard.  The subject of student visas falls under the Immigration and Nationality Act.  For those who wish to pursue an academic curriculum they will have to understand and apply for the US-F1 Academic Student Visa.  If you are a ‘non-immigrant’ then the F visa is for you.  This is the visa that is used for academic studies.  For those wanting to take part in language programmes then the F visa will also apply.  There are certain criteria that must be met in order for any foreign student to enter the country in order to study.

The first requirement is that a foreign student is properly enrolled in a programme that is for the purpose of academic or language training.  It must be at an institution that has been permitted to accept non-immigrant students.  This can only be done by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.  The foreign student must enrol in a course that is full time.  Part time students are not eligible.  The student is expected to have some proficiency in the English language.  If not, the student must be registered in a training programme to become proficient in English.  Having sufficient finances during the whole study period is a prerequisite.  While studying in the United States the foreign student must have a home abroad that he or she wants to keep.  In other words, the foreign student must have a home outside the United States that he or she plans to return to.

How to Get a Sponsored Business Visa

If you are considering starting a new business in a new country you’ll need to obtain the proper visa.  Most countries offer many types of visas.  These typically range from a permanent skilled working visa to a student or part time working status visa.  These visas often have stiff requirements that you either already have a job or have the education and skills to get a job quickly.  Investors and business owners can often obtain a special sponsored business visa.  The sponsored business visa varies from country to country but in general has similar requirements.  First, the business must be viable.  That means that the business is necessary in the country and will likely do well.  Another requirement is that the business offers 5 to 10 new job openings for citizens of the country.  This prevents you from opening a business where you are the sole proprietor.

You will need to supply a detailed business plan that outlines the specific type of business you will open.  It must include financial information that should prove that you will be able to open and sustain the business.  Additionally you will need to have enough money or assets to support yourself and your family for a period of time. Finally, most often you’ll need to pay a special business visa fee, which can be hefty.  The application for sponsored business visa should be submitted as early as possible and in some cases can take many months to approve. Be certain to verify the specific visa application details for the country you are immigrating to.

Information on US F-1 Student Visas

Students from all over the world who have gained acceptance to any US learning institution need to acquire a visa before they can embark on their quest for knowledge. There are various visas tailored for such purposes. There are three student visas which can be awarded to such students. These are US F-1 student visa, the M1 visa and the J1.

All the visas mentioned above are meant for students entering the United States for educational reasons.  The visas are defined as non-immigrant and are usually time bonded.

Although the F-1 visa, the M1 and the J1 visa are all meant for students, they differ greatly in terms of their specifics. The US F-1academic student visa is issued to those students joining well-recognised colleges and universities in the United States on a full time basis.

What this means is that one cannot engage in employment while holding a US F-1 academic student visa. The M1 visa is issued to those attending vocational training institutions while the J1 visa is issued to student on academic exchange programmes.

It is possible to convert from a US F-1 academic student visa to a H1-B visa. The conversion makes it possible for the student to be able to engage in employment. To convert to a H1-B visa status you need a sponsor in the form of an employer. If the conversion process is successful, then you can work for the sponsoring employer.

Although the US F-1 academic student visa is for students, the screening process for obtaining the visa is just as rigorous and thorough as any other type of visa application process. Regardless of whether one has been invited to the learning institution by virtue of a scholarship, several provisions need to be met before a US F-1 academic student visa can be awarded.

Understanding UK Immigration

The UK immigration process has recently undergone some changes that make it easier to navigate and understand.  The previous system granted an HSMP Visa – the “Highly Skilled Migrant Programme”.  This system has now been replaced with the Tier System, which makes it more similar to the systems used globally.

The Tier System provides for 5 different levels or tiers for visas.  Each tier provides for a different group of applicant.  The levels include Tier 1 – for “highly skilled workers” and professionals; Tier 2 – for “skilled workers” with a current job offer; Tier 3 – a temp visa for those with fewer skills; Tier 4 – a student visa and Tier 5 – a temp youth permit for temp workers. The Tier Visa uses a point system to determine eligibility.

The point system, used for Tier 1 Visas for UK immigration, uses several main factors.  Each factor has weighted points that are applied based on your skills or abilities in the area.  The total points necessary to be eligible for a Tier 1 Visa are 75.  The point system is commonly used throughout the country as a way of determining entry into the country on a permanent basis.

The Tier 1 Visa uses education, age, previous employment, salary, English skills, and adaptability to assign points.  The applicant must submit all documentation to prove eligibility at the time of application.  The approval process may take anywhere up to about a year and a half.  It is important to submit all the information at once so that your application is not stalled.

Foreign Students Graduating in Taiwan Allowed to Work

In previous years, foreign students who graduate and study in Taiwan are not allowed to work in the country unless they apply for the respective work permit or work visa. However, Taiwan’s labour officials are now looking into changing that. Taiwan is planning to allow foreign graduate students to work in the country while they are studying. They will be allowed to work from the moment they begin their studies.

This is the action being reviewed by the Taiwan government after receiving a lot of complaints for their local schools and universities that their existing rules prevented their foreign students to work on necessary research projects. According to the existing rules, foreign students may not be allowed to work in the country in the first year of their studies. As a result, the Taiwan government will be implementing new rules to allow these foreign graduate students to work right away the moment they start their studies in the country. However, the work must be related to their studies and must be backed up by the university.

It was the Council of Labour Affairs’ Senior Executive Officer, Chen Jui-chia, who announced that the new rule is in lieu of the many complaints that they have received. Foreign students were shut out on projects that would help them with their academic advancement. It is common practice in graduate studies that professors ask graduate students to work for research during the first year. It would be unfair to exclude these foreign graduates experience in these academically inclined projects. Note however that according to Chen, the old rules will remain for the non-graduate foreign students.

How are Foreign Students Comprised of in the US?

It may come as a surprise but the majority of foreign students studying in the US are comprised of Indian nationals. Statistics show that India takes the number one spot in terms of foreign students in the US. At the same time, India is actually the top country worldwide that sends out students to international grounds for studies.

An estimate of 80,000 from that figure has all come to the United States to study in the top educational institutions recognized around the globe. During the 2000 to 2001 academic year, the number of Indian Students who have come to the US to study was estimated at 55,000. That is a 25,000 increase according to the US government.

In the year 2006, about 74 percent of the Indian students were studying Graduate courses while 16.6 percent of those were undergraduate students. The 9.6 percent were allotted to certain programs like English language training and other vocational or additional educational programs. Over $13 billion was raised and earned by the US economy from international students in the year 2006.

Previously, China was the leading source of international students to the US. In the year 2000, China topped the list of foreign students until Indian students came and exceeded this.
