For some, the lure of tropical paradise is what sends them to the far corners of the world. For others, it’s the mountains, the landscapes, and the epic scenery unfolding across the horizon. The variation in travellers is such that no matter where you go on this planet, you can always find a place to suit each and every adventurer inside of you.
Paraguay, South America, is a destination for the traveller who wants to feel at home, even though they are thousands of miles away from their actual residence. This fascinating country is a land of contrasts. In the rustic villages, horses and carts still act as part of everyday existence, yet drive the same roads as BMW and Mercedes Benz cars. There are modern colonial towns and lush, steamy tropical forests, markedly different from the wild and arid section of Northern Paraguay.
The easiest way to arrive is to fly in to the only international airport in Asuncion. Alternately you can travel by bus from neighbouring countries (such as if you wanted to come here from Santiago, Chile, or Santa Cruz, Bolivia), but bus travel is best reserved for the veteran explorer and backpacker, not the every-day average tourist. Once you get to the airport you can hire a taxi to take you to a hotel, of which there are plenty.
The people of Paraguay are what make this destination such a gem. While tourists are rare, they treat them as one of the family, making you feel right at home. There is no end to the wealth of information they are willing to give you regarding their culture and history, which can give you an experience beyond merely sight-seeing while in South America.
