Russia is by far and away the country in Europe with the biggest land mass. The country spans over 17 million square kilometres and has a combined population of over 140 million people, larger than the United States of America. The country shares a number of borders with surrounding European countries – borders that were predominantly formed during the times of the Russian empire.
The country is dominant in the oil and gas industry and is home to some of the world’s richest entrepreneurs. Russia also supplies many other European countries with vital energy supplies.
The country has a very rich and deep history, some of it pleasant and some very unpleasant. When the country was a communist state, the Soviet Union, Russia was headed by some of the most brutal leaders the world has ever seen.
The country is now a most desirable place to visit for all tourists as so much historical architecture has been preserved. There is also the chance to visit the tomb of the leader, Lenin, plus many other more cheerful attractions.
In terms of getting to and from the country, airports are the most popular option with millions using them each year. Russia is also highly regarded as having the most efficient rail network in Europe. Travel is extremely efficient here, making it easy for tourists to see everything that is on offer.
The country has so much to offer and the culture is one of the most diverse in the world, thus making it a very appealing place for millions of people to visit each year.
