The city of Palma is the capital of both the island of Mallorca and also of Spain’s autonomous community of the Balearic Islands.
Being the major city in the islands, it also serves as the commercial and cultural centre. Palma is the 12th largest urban area in Spain, with a population of 517, 285. It is located in the southwest of Mallorca, where it serves as a seaport, since it is situated in the large coastal Bay of Palma, in the western Mediterranean.
Flights to Palma allow visitors to discover the city’s various forms of transport. The most interesting of which is the Mallorca Rail Network, which has three lines to four destinations. A more obvious mode of transport operates from Palma de Mallorca Airport, which is the third largest in Spain.
The city makes for an interesting holiday destination, because it is a beautiful and stunning coastal city. It is also deeply rooted in history and culture, which together attract ever more travellers to take flights to Palma, each year.
Touted as the best place to live in Spain, Palma is home to some of the best hotels, restaurants and accommodation in the Balearics. It also provides a great variety of entertainment, leisure and nightlife and because of its location the city is always extremely busy during the summer months, when the population often doubles.
Three of its most famous tourist attractions are the Royal Palace, the Stock Exchange and the Castle of Bellver. Along with all this culture and history, the beaches are a prize-find among tourists and simply add to the overall travel experience.
